The two-time defending MVP took a long pass off the boards from Nicklas Backstrom, skated in on a breakaway and easily scored on Antero Niittymaki to give Washington a 2-1 lead.
It was Ovechkin's 45th goal of the season and his NHL-leading 97th point.
Tomas Fleischmann and Alexander Semin also scored for Washington (48-14-10). Vincent Lecavalier had the Lightning's only goal.
Ovechkin was suspended two games for shoving Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brian Campbell from behind and sending him into the boards last Sunday. Campbell broke his collarbone and ribs, and is expected to miss at least the rest of the regular season.
Fleischmann scored the first goal for the Capitals just 2:40 into the game when he took a pass in the slot from Dan Steckel and caught Niittymaki out of position.
Tampa Bay stormed back when Lecavalier took a feed from Teddy Purcell and pushed a shot past Theodore.
That was all that Theodore would allow. He turned aside several odd-man rushes, including a point-blank shot by Lecavalier midway through the first period. Martin St. Louis was denied during a 2-on-1 rush in the second period.
Semin scored in the third period, scoring off a rebound of Brooks Laich's slap shot.

Wild beat Flyers in overtime
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia goalie Brian Boucher felt the puck squirt out of his glove, then heard teammate Chris Pronger yell, soccer jerseys "In the air!"
Next thing Boucher knew, the puck was in the net, after bouncing off Boucher and into the net, giving Kyle Brodziak an overtime goal and sending the Minnesota Wild to a 4-3 comeback victory Thursday night.
The Wild sent the reeling Flyers to their sixth loss in their past seven games, threatening their playoff hopes.
Despite being outshot 35-21, Minnesota came back from a two-goal deficit entering the third period. Martin Havlat scored Minnesota's second goal, and Andrew Brunette's deflection off a shot through traffic from John Scott tied it with 6:37 left.
"When you have a lead going into the third, especially a two-goal lead, those are the wins you expect to have," Boucher said. "It's disappointing not to get two points. There's not much more to say."
Philadelphia is seventh in the Eastern Conference, four points ahead of ninth-place Atlanta in the race for the eight playoff spots. They earned one point for reaching overtime, moving five points ahead of the ninth-place Atlanta Thrashers and New York Rangers.

We only got one point and should've gotten two. Playoff time -- you have a two goal lead going into the third, it should be an automatic win."
Minnesota's Marek Zidlicky scored the first Wild goal 34 seconds into the second period with a snap shot, but Dan Carcillo answered that when he placed Hartnell's pass by Backstrom.

"It's a lack of focus, a lack of concentration, a lack of desire," Pronger said. "That game should be locked down at 3-1. This late in the season, that's just unacceptable."
Added Hartnell: "It's frustrating. Fans are (angry). It's almost embarrassing, losing like that at home. We're picked to make some noise in the playoffs, but if we keep doing that, we might not be in. It needs to change immediately. We need points this weekend, that's the bottom line."

Satan's OT goal lifts Bruins over Maple Leafs 2-1
TORONTO (AP) - Miroslav Satan scored 3:25 into overtime and the Boston Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 on Saturday night to maintain their small cushion in the tight Eastern Conference playoff race.
Boston is seventh in the East, soccer jerseys two points ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers and the hard-charging New York Rangers. The Leafs, meanwhile, missed an opportunity to get within one point of Tampa Bay and Florida for 14th in the conference _ a position that remains important because Boston owns Toronto's first-round pick in this year's draft.
Satan had both goals for Boston (36-30-12), which has scored just five times in four games.
Colton Orr had the lone goal for the Maple Leafs (29-36-14).
On the winning goal, Satan fooled goalie Jonas Gustavsson by tipping defenseman Zdeno Chara's point shot with the shaft of his stick.
It was another frustrating game for Toronto's Phil Kessel, who failed to score against his former team for the sixth time this season. The winger finished with one assist and a minus-4 rating while facing the Bruins.
The Maple Leafs came out with plenty of jump in their second-to-last home game. They directed a couple quality chances at former Toronto draft pick Tuukka Rask and got the opening goal from an unlikely source.
Orr scored from the high slot at 5:10 of the first, roofing the puck after it had been blocked in front by a Bruins defenseman. It was a career-high fourth goal of the season for the Leafs' enforcer.
Boston tied it at 7:01 of the second period when Satan was left alone at the side of the net and batted a rebound behind Gustavsson for his seventh of the season.
The Leafs goalie was busy in the middle period and made a nice save on David Krejci's rush to keep it 1-1 heading into the third.
Rask stood tall during a third-period Toronto power play and did well to stop Dion Phaneuf's point shot. Gustavsson denied Blake Wheeler on a rush up the wing.

Liverpool vs. Man City: EPL Betting Preview
Neither Liverpool or Manchester City will be winning the NBA jerseys Premier League this season but their clash at Anfield on Saturday could help shape both of their campaign’s and the prices appear wrong to me.
The early kick-off welcomes back top flight football following the international break and both sides were clearly in need of a rest. Liverpool’s season has already unraveled at the seams and, while Rafa Benitez’s men have been toiling both domestically and in the Champions League, Saturday’s opponents too have found life tough going of late.
City’s five consecutive Premier League draws have been far from ideal for Mark Hughes and his side, they have title aspirations themselves, but it pales into insignificance in comparison with the woes at Anfield and Rafa must turn things around quickly.
Five defeats already for the Reds, unheard of in November, ended their challenge for very top honours before it had even begun and the Spanish boss must once again do without virtually half of his first choice XI.
The players Benitez has to call upon in the absence of the likes of Glen Johnson, Albert Riera, Yossi Benayoun and, crucially, Fernando Torres are well below the required standard while Fabio Aurelio and Daniel Agger are also both doubtful for Saturday.
The one positive for Benitez this weekend is the return of Steven Gerrard to action but the England midfielder is certainly not fully fit, by his own admission, and is sure to have one eye, at least, on the massive clash against Debrecen on Tuesday.
Liverpool cannot afford to miss out on Champions League football in any season but if they were to slip out of the top four then Hughes’ side appear ideally positioned to take their place.
Just one defeat in the campaign so far, that dramatic 4-3 reversal at Old Trafford, illustrates just how difficult City are to beat and it should be remembered that they have a game in hand over all of their main rivals. A win for the visitors on Saturday would take them four points clear of Liverpool, having played a match less, but I’m sure they’d settle for a draw and that appears the most likely outcome.
I’m amazed that Liverpool can be opposed at a shade of odds-on this weekend, I’m convinced the hosts don’t win this fixture more than 50 per cent of the time, and City’s recent training camp in Abu Dhabi could have done them the world of good.
The majority of Hughes’ squad were present, as opposed to being on internationally duty, and I get the impression that they will rarely fail to show their true form in the big games this season. This is certainly a big game, and one in which they should avoid defeat with only Martin Petrov a certain absentee.

The weekend's standout fixture is Sunday's London derby between English leaders Chelsea and third-placed Arsenal. Last weekend's home loss to Manchester United may have taken the wind out of Arsenal's title challenge, but they're still only six points behind the Blues and, of course, this is a derby.
And Chelsea haven't been setting the world on fire recently after a disappointing midweek draw at struggling Hull City meant the Blues couldn't extend their league lead to the extent they'd hoped to. The pressure is mounting on skipper John Terry, but the return of Didier Drogba (who scored a lovely free-kick midweek) will boost Chelsea.
Despite all that, Chelsea's outstanding home form makes them the favourites here, although Arsenal were the last side to win at Stamford Bridge way back in November 2008. Cesc Fabregas struggled against the Red Devils last weekend and a lot more will be demanded of him this Sunday if Arsenal are to get up.

But Bayern, who've won 9 in a row in all competitons, are hardly ideal opponents for the interim boss.
And Bayern will be bolstered by the return from injury of French star Franck Ribery, alongside winger Arjen Robben, who you suspect will trouble Wolfsburg with their width, considering the champs play a narrow brand of football. But despite having not won since early November, Wolfsburg remain dangerous with the likes of Grafite and Edin Dzeko in their side and you never know.

Steve McClaren's title challengers Twente face a huge task with a journey to Amsterdam ArenA to face Ajax who are unbeaten at home this Eredivisie season. The Dutch title race is quite the battle with PSV and Twente proving near perfect in their records of 17-4-0.
Indeed, any slip-up could prove detrimental to either sides' ambitions and Twente's journey to third-placed Ajax presents a possible blemish. The free-scoring Ajax, led by topscorer Luis Suarez, mightn't find scoring so easy against Twente who are sound defensively. This is sure to be worth watching.

Fulham vs. Notts County: FA Cup Betting Preview
This game is all about recognising value and I rate Fulham much nearer 1/3 shots this weekend than the 8/15 on offer to get the better of Notts County in the FA Cup.

I was happy to oppose Roy Hodgson’s side at Bolton in the Premier League last weekend given their priorities this season now seemingly lie elsewhere, other than the top flight, but they held on for a point at The Reebok and were convincing 3-0 victors over Burnley in midweek on the back of that draw.
With the knockout stages of the Europa League still to come, Fulham have a genuine chance of silverware this campaign given how badly the FA Cup has cut up in the early rounds and Hodgson will surely have his men whipped-up for the visit of County.
Fulham have been poor on the whole of late but the signs have been encouraging over the past week or so, when picking up four points from six on offer, and the League Two side should hold no fears.
Saturday’s opponents currently lie almost three divisions lower than Fulham on the league ladder and while their 2-0 win at Wigan in round four was impressive that has nicely inflated the home side’s price this weekend.
Fulham will surely not let such a golden opportunity pass them by and I expect the Premier League club to advance in style.
The West London club posses an excellent home record this season, as they did last, and have benefited from the return to fitness of Bobby Zamora of late. He was touted as a potential strike partner for Wayne Rooney in the white of England earlier in the season and, along with the craft of the likes of Danny Murphy in midfield, should have too much for the visitors.
Nobody outside the top five has notched more wins in front of their own fans than Fulham so far this term, they have eight victories to date at Craven Cottage, and I can’t imagine Mark Schwarzer will be tested too often on Saturday. He should be protected more than ably by Brede Hangeland and his defensive colleagues and I reckon one goal will be enough for Fulham to advance to the last eight.
Nobody is going to get rich backing 1.50 chances every week but I’m certain Fulham still represent the best bet of round five against such lowly opposition and Notts County’s recent decent form isn’t enough to put me off getting involved.
County were beaten at Bournemouth to remain in seventh spot in League Two last time out and that sums up the difference in class between them and their more illustrious hosts this weekend.

Defense
Last season, the defense was unable to Soccer jerseys stop teams on the ground and in the air. They were last in yards and points allowed. Left end Ikaika Alama-Francis, starts his second season on the defensive line and will hopefully help there. Ernie Sims (134 tackles) and Paris Lenon (118 tackles) are first-rate on a sound linebacking squad. With the addition of former Cleveland Browns CB Leigh Bodden and free-agent CB Brian Kelly, the secondary has been improved.

Strahan Will Not Return to Giants
Strahan, who was part of Soccer jerseys the 2007 Super Bowl Giants massively effective D-line, is a seven-time Pro Bowler. He led a defensive effort that hamstrung the New England Patriots offense in the 2007 Super Bowl. The Giants beat the Pats 17-14 to win the league championship. The team needs someone with Strahan's experience, skill set and toughness to replace Umenyiora if they expect to have a chance to get back to the championship contest this season. At this point, the Giants are attempting to plug the large hole left by Umenyiora's meniscus mishap by starting two-year veteran DE Mathias Kiwanuka. With Umenyiora out, Kiwanuka moving up and Strahan remaining retired, the Giants' D-line ranks are starting to look thin.

Charlotte Bobcats 44-37
I like the Bobcats and have always been a huge Larry Brown fan, but I think Brown’s refusal to open up his offense a bit stifles what the Bobcats could really do in transition.
