Central California QB Kessler has first-rate arm

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. (AP) —Centennial High School’s Cody Kessler has a first-rate arm, throwing for nearly 2,200 yards last season despite missing time with an ankle injury.
But he’s also got a pretty good jumper, averaging 29.4 points a game football jerseys
last season.
Maybe USC hoops coach Kevin O’Neill has room on his bench for another outside shooter?
For now, Kessler is set to become Lane Kiffin’s prodigy, verbally committing to USC in June to the Trojans. His plan is to enroll at the school early, putting his hoops career on hold.
Kessler is the highest-profile recruit in California’s Central Valley, and is considered one of the top five quarterbacks in the nation. At 6-foot-1 and 208 pounds, he threw for 2,169 yards and 10 touchdowns last season for the Golden Hawks, leading the team to the Division I Central Section championship game.
He did all that despite missing four games with a sprained ankle.
Kessler was ready to commit to Washington in mid-May, but 49ers jersey
just as he was about to call Husky coach Steve Sarkisian, Kiffin - who took over the Trojans when Pete Carroll jumped to the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks - gave him a call. Kessler visited the Trojan campus soon thereafter.
At a news conference announcing his decision, Kessler let his little brother Dylan do the honors of selecting between five hats: Alabama, Washington, UCLA, Pitt and USC.
A week later the Trojans were hit by NCAA sanctions for improper benefits that went to Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush(notes) dating to the Trojans’ 2004 national championship. USC will be banned from bowl games for the next two years and lose scholarships.
But Kessler maintained he was not swayed: His Chargers jersey
decision was based on USC’s track record in recent years of sending quarterbacks to the NFL, namely Matt Leinart(notes), John David Booty(notes) and Carson Palmer(notes).
“I’m sold, I’m 100 percent,” Kessler said at his announcement. “This is where I want to go.”
